Rehab Exercises to Help Your Body Recover

Rehab Exercises:

Exercises and movement is one of our favorite tools to keep your pain away! Research has shown that when adjustments are coupled with therapeutic exercises, the benefits of the adjustment are longer lasting. This means less frequent visits, less money spent on healthcare, and less pain! For every visit, we select a couple exercises specifically for you and your movement patterns to help strengthen your muscles. These exercises don't require a gym membership or any fancy equipment, rather they are movements that you can incorporate in your every day life to keep your muscles healthy and happy.

Movement is so crucial to life! Even if you hate stepping foot in a gym or going for a run, you need movement each and every day. Think about how many squats you do daily as you sit down in a chair or on the toilet or the amount of deadlifts you do as you grab something off the bottom shelf in your kitchen. Your body is constantly moving, which is why we want to make sure you are moving right.

Research has proven that adjustments coupled with rehabilitative exercises produce more effective and long-lasting effects than just an adjustment alone. Exercises will help strengthen your muscles, eliminate faulty compensation patterns, and increase your tolerance to loads and stresses.

Rehabilitative exercises can be used for a variety of things. We first use them to help get you out of pain. When we feel pain, it is our body's way of wanting attention, just like a baby crying. The area wants to be touched, worked, and strengthened. From there, we help to build strength around your pain generator to prevent your pain from coming back in the future. Once you are out of pain, our exercises will increasingly become more complex to help you build stability on top of the new mobility you will get from the adjustment.

Rehab doesn't stop when the pain stops. If your body is experiencing pain, your brain cannot learn new motor programs to correct old and sometimes bad patterns. Imagine you are running and a bee comes up and stings you – in that moment you don’t care how your gait looks, you are only concerned with the bee stinging you. The same thing happens with rehabbing through pain. There is an optimal 20 minute window after an adjustment of decreased pain perception. We take advantage of this window to teach new movement patterns without the worry of acute pain.

With every appointment, our doctors include rehab exercises that you can do to help alleviate your pain. No gym membership or equipment required. It is our hope that with every exercise we give, you can not only stay out of pain, but you can use the exercise as a strategy to control your own pain. Our ultimate goal is teaching self care and there is no better way to do that than giving you the tools you need to live a self-sustaining and pain-free life.
