Back pain can be debilitating! Add these 5 simple tricks to help prevent back pain.
Move Often - Muscles, joints, nerves all get irritated when they are stuck in a position for too long. Prolonged sitting, prolonged standing without switching positions tend to overwork certain muscles, while allowing other muscles to become lazy. This leads to pain and discomfort. To combat this, take microbreaks, alternative sitting and standing, and move! Take daily walks, get to the gym, or simply perform self-care exercises.
Put support behind your low back. Our back muscles love to work… too much. One way to allow them to turn off is to add additional support behind the back. This could look like getting a better desk chair, putting a lumbar support, or even just using a rolled up sweatshirt behind the low back. Add the support for 30-60 minutes, then remove the support for 30-60 minutes. Continue to alternate!
Get adjusted. If your joints aren’t moving the way they should, this can put more stress on the muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc. Get adjusted regularly to make sure your musculoskeletal system is in optimal health.
Strengthen your hips. Weak glute muscles, tight hips, limited range of motion forces the back to compensate for the hips. If you have low back pain, consider strengthening your hips. The more your hips move and function, the less stress on your back
Drink plenty of water. Water is crucial to allow elasticity within your muscles and joints. This not only allows them to move more, but water is essential to the healing process.
