A bunion can be more than just a bump on the side of your big toe. Over time, it can become painful, irritated by shoes, and make walking or exercising uncomfortable.
While chiropractic care cannot simply "push a bunion back into place," we can often help address some of the movement and mechanical factors that may contribute to pain and irritation.
A bunion, also called hallux valgus, occurs when the big toe gradually angles toward the other toes while the joint at the base of the big toe becomes more prominent. Several factors can contribute to bunion development, including:
👨👩👧 Genetics and foot structure
👟 Footwear
🦶 Limited big-toe mobility
👣 Changes in foot mechanics
💪 Muscle weakness or imbalance
🚶🏻♂️ Abnormal walking patterns
😖Repetitive stress on the foot
Some people have bunions for years without significant symptoms, while others develop pain, swelling, stiffness, or difficulty finding comfortable shoes.
How Can We Help?
1. Improve Big-Toe Mobility
2. Improve Foot and Ankle Mobility
3. Strengthen the Muscles That Support the Foot
4. Look at the Entire Lower Extremity
5. Help Reduce Irritation
Can Chiropractic Care Make a Bunion Go Away?
Chiropractic care cannot reverse the structural deformity of an established bunion.
Even when the bunion itself remains, improving foot mobility, strength, coordination, and overall lower-extremity mechanics may help you move more comfortably and reduce stress on the area.
Your feet are your foundation. When they move well, the rest of your body has a better opportunity to move well, too. If you're dealing with bunion pain, don't assume that your only option is to "live with it." Let's find out what's contributing to your symptoms and determine how we can help.
